Reduce heat loss and save money
With escalating heating bills we are all striving to find ways to improve heat retention within our homes. At SashWise we are here to help and have a range of options to improve the thermal performance of your windows to suit a range of budgets.
Heat loss in your home
In general terms period properties lose approximately 20% heat loss through draughts and 40% through glazing. With the remaining 40% being lost through walls; floors; roofs and open chimneys.
When we talk about heat loss, we refer to U-Values. A U-Value is the rate at which a material loses heat, in the case of windows glass. Put simply the higher the U-Value the greater the heat loss.
A single pane of glass found in most traditional windows will have a U-Value of around 5.
The solution
By retaining the original sash boxes or casement window frames and fitting new timber double glazed sashes we can reduce the U-Value to between 2.6 and 1.3. The end U-Value being governed by the thickness of the timber sash that can be accommodated within the original sash box or casement frame.
By replacing the sash or casement window in its entirety and supplying and fitting new timber double glazed windows we can reduce the overall U-Value of the window down to around 1.3.
Where upgrading to double glazing is not feasible through budget constraints or planning restrictions, then simply draught-proofing your original windows you will feel a noticeable difference in heat retention through the lack of draughts.
